Buxus Japonica Boxwood Shrubs for Outdoor Live Plants

Boxwoods are popular evergreen shrubs, especially for use as a low, tidy hedge or in topiaries. The lustrous, fine-textured dark-green foliage is a favorite for floral arranging too. Perfect as a garden perimeter or along a fence, boxwood can also be used as a natural low barrier. It also accents entryways, walkways, or foundation beds. Boxwoods can be hedged into a variety of forms with their easy "shearability." They can be complemented by colorful companion plants such as begonias, daylilies, and roses. Boxwoods typically grow to 4 to 5 feet in height and width. They are best grown in evenly moist, well-drained soils and require less water once established. They thrive in full to part sun and should be fed in spring with an all-purpose fertilizer. Boxwoods are hardy to Zone 6, tolerating temperatures as low as minus 10°F.
